Electrical Engineer

Summary of the Role:

Electrovaya is looking for Electrical Engineers well versed in all aspects of electrical design including system design, board level design, harnesses, power distribution, and testing. In this role you will be part of design team developing complex battery systems with focus on safety, performance, cost, and manufacturability. You’ll be working with an exceptional team of electrical, mechanical, software, and systems engineers and will collaborate with supply chain management, on-site production, supplier partners and R&D.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare electrical drawings including board level schematics, single line diagrams, wire harnesses, and power distribution. Collaborate closely with PCB layout and firmware
  • Bring up and test prototypes, generate test reports
  • Actively participate in creating project and product documentation as needed: Prepare specifications, manuals, and other documentations including required for supplier management
  • Product validation, verification and certification including active contribution to FMEA

Skills & Competencies:

System Design (required):

  • Low voltage DC systems – up to 80V, up to 500A (selection of fuses, contactors, wiring, current sensors)
  • High voltage DC systems – up to 800V, up to 100A (selection of fuses, contactors, wiring, current sensors)

Testing (required):

  • Prepare test plans and test reports for both board level assemblies and system
  • Able to design and build test fixtures as necessary is an asset
  • Experience with Labview and NI modules is an asset

Board level design (asset):

  • Boards are mixed signal, typically include microcontrollers with analog and digital interface circuits, CAN, RS485, wifi modules, power supplies, interconnects, etc
  • Experience with PCB Layout tools is an asset
  • Experience with battery management systems and firmware development experience is an asset

Education & Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, 7+ years experience in design roles.
  • Willingness to take initiative, capable of working independently, including cases when requirements are not fully defined – pull information rather than wait for it to be provided.
  • Strong team player, collaboration and teamwork is a must
  • Must be familiar with Product Development and PLM principles and well organized in terms of record keeping, revision control, and other change flow requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong DFM, DFT, and DFC approach
  • Experience with Google tools is an asset

Electrical Engineering Technologist

Summary of the Role:

The successful candidate will support the electrical engineering team in the development of complex lithium-ion battery electrical storage systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the engineering staff in designing, developing and manufacturing electrical goods and equipment
  • Prepare diagrams and blue prints of electrical equipment according to design models
  • Assemble and install electrical equipment
  • Diagnose electrical problems and repair them
  • Test electrical circuits and ensuring their safety
  • Record any kind of electrical problem and report it

Education & Qualifications:

  • Technical associate degree or equivalent. Certification course or vocational course in electrical engineering concepts
  • Knowledge about the practical application of electrical engineering concepts
  • Knowledge about the usage of tools used in the development and repair of electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of mathematics and science and their application in electrical engineering
  • Knowledge about codes, rules, regulations and standards of electrical equipment
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to details, and excellent work discipline
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and protocols
  • Must be able to work in a lab environment with lab equipment and tools.

Embedded Software / Firmware Engineer

Summary of the Role:

To design, develop, document, validate, verify, and integrate highly complex, embedded systems including laboratory and field testing.

Education & Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
    Minimum 5 years of embedded systems experience developing Firmware in C/C++, including Kernel/OS debugging
  • Well organized, experienced with release and version control tools and principles, excellent documentation skills
  • Familiar with test approaches for complex multi- controller systemsAble to prepare Software Requirements Document based on customer or system requirements
  • Proven experience with solving real-time embedded issues including threading, optimization, memory management, interrupt handling, etc
  • Experience with bring-up of custom-designed microcontroller boards using proprietary and freeware boot-loaders, all the way up to embedded OS
  • Solid understanding of low level CPU architecture including interfacing
    Experience with variety of communication interfaces and protocols CAN, Modbus TCP, UDP, TCP/IP, etc)
  • Knowledge of security protocols

Lab Technician

Summary of the Role:
Responsible for performing laboratory testing and recording results of testing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform tasks related to the design and testing of products
  • Perform experiments independently or under the direction of engineers or research scientists
  • Record results of experiments and help analyze failures.
  • Maintain proper lab supplies and store such in a safe manner

Education & Qualifications:

  • Technical associate degree or equivalent. Certification course or vocational course in electrical engineering concepts
  • Minimum of five years of work as an engineering technician in a role around engineering labs, product development or reliability / failure analysis labs
  • Ability to test, calibrate, diagnose, and repair various devices
  • Good communication and organization skills
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to details, and excellent work discipline
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures and protocols
  • Must be able to work in a lab environment with lab equipment and tools.

NPI Manufacturing / Industrial Engineeer

Summary of the Role:

The successful candidate will lead manufacturing in establishing, qualifying, and improving manufacturing processes for the assembly, troubleshooting, and testing of complex lithium-ion battery electrical storage systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To evaluate, establish, improve, and qualify manufacturing processes following Electrovaya guidelines by understanding product requirements and applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
  • Develop, implement, and transfer of manufacturing processes and procedures for new product introductions and continuous manufacturing improvement opportunities.
  • To lead the Manufacturing Engineering team including for NPI and day-to-day production activities
  • To work with and support Contract Manufacturer and supplier engineering teams as required
  • Support the Production Team by leading technical troubleshooting efforts related to electromechanical systems, control systems, and other electronic systems.
  • Develop, build, and qualify manufacturing testing stations including hardware and software installations, assembly test fixtures/jigs, and other test equipment as required.
  • Conduct training and provide guidance and supervision for Production Technicians on assembling, testing, troubleshooting, and repair techniques of electromechanical equipment.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout while meeting manufacturing process, product, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Provide inputs to the product development staff for continuous improvement initiatives for product manufacturability and serviceability.
  • Develop and update manufacturing work instructions, device master records, and other documentation as required and implement approved changes through ECO process.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods and establishing standards to confirm manufacturing process capabilities.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information and communicate production status, deviations, issues and general information to manufacturing management.
  • Assist during internal/external audit process.

Skills & Competencies:

Hands-on experience in Manufacturing Engineering for complex electromechanical systems including:

  • Process and tool development
  • Developing test systems, plans and criteria
  • Working with production staff, QA and engineering to resolve non-conformances and rework
  • Writing work instructions and training production staff to follow them
  • Verifying and validating production processes
  • Excellent problem solving skills, technical proficiency, and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and some knowledge in Technical writing.
  • Able to adapt and drive change in a product development & manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to identify potential problems and take appropriate action.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to coordinate workload to ensure that deadlines and targets are met.
  • Good computer skills (Solidworks and MS Office applications).
  • Must be able to work with others in different disciplines.
  • Must be able to work in a team setting.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline or equivalent education gained through work experiences.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with manufacturing techniques involved with electromechanical systems
  • Minimum 1 year experience managing other Manufacturing Engineers
  • Knowledge of and experience working in an ISO 9001 or ISO/TS 16949 environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience & knowledge in Electro Mechanical Engineering, FMEA, Lean Manufacturing, DFM, DFT, DFA principles and applications.

Sr. Systems Engineer (Mechanical Engineer)

Summary of the Role:

We are seeking a talented mechanical systems designer with strong leadership, communication, technical and process skills to join our dynamic and fast paced team. Ideal backgrounds include automation or medical devices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To lead the mechanical design (including concept development, analysis, drafting, bill-of-materials)
  • Define, deliver and track project timelines and be responsible for the mechanical-related deliverables of the project
  • Contributes to excellence by developing mechanical solutions and technologies that reduce costs, improve reliability, safety, manufacturing, serviceability, or sustainability.
  • Define and execute experiments and simulations, analyze results and communicate conclusions and recommendations
  • Ensure robust process definition appropriate to product volume and with the ability to rapidly scale to higher volumes
  • Support supplier quality management
  • Assure quality management by leading root cause analysis / troubleshooting where necessary
  • Documents, releases, and maintains mechanical engineering documentation subject to review and approvals and according to project work packages, schedules, and budget
  • Ultimate metric of success: flawless release of new design enabling leading performance, safety and quality cost-effectively

Education & Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field. (MS is preferred)
  • Minimum 8 years experience mechanical design experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience managing a Mechanical Engineering team
  • Minimum 3 years experience process design experience
  • Expert in electromechanical experience and/or thermal optimization
  • Expertise in design for reliability and value engineering
  • Proven experience to take mechanical designs from concept to integration and into production.
